At microSHIFT, a team of engineers and manufacturers with decades of experience in bicycle transmissions has been assembled. By combining experience with modern developments and patented technologies, the Chinese manufacturer has been able to create incredibly reliable components that can be trusted in real conditions.
Here we have prepared answers to frequently asked questions about microSHIFT components.
Wide range of parts: Shimano, SRAM, and other brands
- What is the warranty period for microSHIFT components?
Four years. The warranty for all components covers manufacturing defects and is 4 years from the date of purchase.
- Are 10-speed Advent X shifters and derailleurs compatible with similar Shimano components?
No. Advent X has a different cable tension ratio, and these components work well with Advent X parts.
3. Can standard 10-speed cassettes be used with the Advent X transmission?
Yes, Advent X is compatible with standard 10-speed cassettes. We recommend using cassettes with a large sprocket size of 46 to 48 teeth. Smaller sprockets are also suitable, but the quality of shifting may deteriorate.
4. If the Advent X cassette lacks a spacer, where can I buy it?
Often the spacer can simply stick to the cassette locknut inside the packaging. If this is not your case, you can contact the manufacturer directly through the website.
5. Which brakes can be used with microSHIFT road shifters?
All microSHIFT shifters are compatible with mechanical brakes, where the cable pull is small. The company does not currently produce hydraulic levers.
6. Can larger or smaller range cassettes be used with Acolyte/Advent/Advent X rear derailleurs?
microSHIFT derailleurs work best with large rear sprockets of the stated sizes – 42-46T for Acolyte and Advent, 46-48T for Advent X. Smaller range cassettes can be used, but in this case, the distance from the top pulley to the cassette will be greater. Clarity and speed of shifting can suffer.
If you use larger sprocket cassettes larger than allowed, you risk overloading the transmission, damaging the rear derailleur, and, of course, degrading the shift quality.
7. Can I use a cassette from another brand with a microSHIFT transmission on a bicycle or exercise bike?
Yes, but we recommend paying attention to the maximum allowable size of the large sprocket – 42-46T for Acolyte and Advent, 46-48T for Advent X.
8. How do I insert a new cable into the microSHIFT straight handlebar shifter?
You don’t need to disassemble the shifters for this, and there is a detailed instruction on the manufacturer’s website. In short, to begin with, switch to the smallest sprocket on the cassette. Remove the cable end from the shifter. Loosen the cable clamp bolt on the derailleur, then remove the old cable, first pushing its head out of the shifter. Insert the new cable into the same hole in the shifter and thread it through the entire system. Make sure the cable head is in place.
9. How do I insert a new cable into the microSHIFT road handlebar shifter?
10. How do I prevent the Acolyte/Advent/Advent X rear derailleur from hitting the large cassette sprocket?
First, check the position of the “b” adjustment screw (which is at the top of the derailleur). With the correct adjustment, the distance between the top pulley of the Acolyte/Advent/Advent X derailleur and the large cassette sprocket should be 11-13 mm for Acolyte and Advent, or 15-17 mm for Advent X. If you can’t adjust it, it’s likely that your chain is too long. Most often, the derailleur pulleys are not symmetrical. When the chain pulls the pulley forward, the upper pulley moves away from the cassette. Accordingly, with a chain that is too long, the pulley can come very close to the large cassette sprocket.
11. Can the shift effort be adjusted for the Acolyte transmission?
The correct position of the “b” screw can facilitate upshifting. When it is correct, the distance between the top pulley of the Acolyte derailleur and the large cassette sprocket should be 11-13 mm. This screw is located above the derailleur limit screws, next to the mounting bolt.
12. Is the Acolyte transmission suitable for children’s bicycles?
The standard version of the Acolyte works fine with most 24-inch wheels. The main thing is to check that the rear wheel of the bike has a standard hub, not a freewheel thread.
13. Is the company MicroNew the same as MicroShift?
No. MicroSHIFT products are becoming more and more popular, and there are more and more counterfeits. Make sure you are buying components from trusted sellers.
14. Can I use R9 shifters with Advent derailleurs?
Unfortunately, no. Advent has a different cable tension ratio needed to work with large cassettes – these components are not compatible with each other.
15. Are all handlebar grips the same?
No. In general, there are two main types – for road and mountain bikes. Mountain bike grips are larger, so there are more attachments there.
16. What cables are suitable for MicroShift brakes and shifters?
For most MicroShift brakes and shifters, standard cables compatible with Shimano are suitable. The DS- and DN-series are an exception, where Campagnolo-compatible cables are used.
17. Can I buy MicroShift components directly from the manufacturer?
No, the company only works with regional distributors for product implementation.
18. Where can I buy MicroShift components?
MicroShift works with many distributors to sell components worldwide. Efforts are constantly being made to expand the geography of sales – however, if you cannot find MicroShift products in your city, try buying them through an online store.
19. How do I tighten the ratchet on the rear derailleur Advent or Advent X?
Remove the ratchet housing with a cross screwdriver. Then tighten the ratchet bolt with a Torx T15 star-shaped wrench – don’t rush, turn it 1/4 turn at a time. This will increase the pressure on the friction washers, improving the ratchet engagement. You can check it by hand.
20. My MicroShift cassette only has two rivets. Is that okay?
Yes. The rivets in MicroShift cassettes are not a constructive part of them. They simply hold the cassette in the assembled state inside the package and simplify its installation. (When the cassette is on the bike, it is still fixed with a lock nut).
